Definition
Abortion is the expulsion or extraction of the products of conception before the fetus becomes viable.

Classification by Cause
- A. Natural (Spontaneous) Abortion — occurs without deliberate interference.
- B. Artificial (Induced) Abortion — produced deliberately.
- Therapeutic / Legal Abortion — performed according to provisions of MTP Act.
- Criminal (Illegal) Abortion — performed unlawfully; not protected under MTP Act.
