Classification According to Depth

First-Degree Burn (Epidermal Burn)

  • Involves only the epidermis
  • Redness (erythema)
  • Painful
  • No blister formation
  • Heals without scarring
  • Example: sunburn

Second-Degree Burn (Dermo-Epidermal Burn)

Superficial Second Degree

  • Epidermis and superficial dermis involved
  • Blisters present
  • Severe pain
  • Heals with minimal scarring

Deep Second Degree

  • Deeper dermal involvement
  • Fewer blisters
  • May heal with scarring
