Definition
Professional misconduct (also called infamous conduct in a professional respect) is any act or omission by a medical practitioner which violates the code of medical ethics and brings disrepute to the medical profession.

- Advertising and canvassing
- Covering (allowing an unqualified person to practice under one's name)
- Issuing false medical certificates
- Disclosure of professional secrets without justification
- Fee splitting and commissions
- Performing illegal procedures
- Refusal of professional duties without valid reason
- Improper relationship with a patient
Consequences
Professional misconduct may result in disciplinary action by the Medical Council:
- Warning
- Suspension of registration
- Removal of name from the medical register
