- The anterior two layers descend from the greater curvature of the stomach, continuous there with the peritoneum on its anterior and posterior surfaces, then fold on themselves to form the posterior two layers.
- The posterior two layers ascend to the transverse mesocolon, where the fourth layer blends loosely with peritoneum on the anterior surface of the transverse colon and transverse mesocolon.
- Folding pattern: the first layer becomes the fourth layer, and the second layer becomes the third layer.
