Hand: palmar aponeurosis, fascial spaces, tendon sheaths and infections

  • Palmar aponeurosis: triangular thickening of the palmar deep fascia over the long flexor tendons.
    • Continuous with the fibrous flexor sheaths, synovial sheaths/bursae and fascial spaces of the hand.

Palmar Aponeurosis

  • Apex (proximal): blends with the flexor retinaculum.
  • Base (distal): splits into four slips to the medial four digits.
  • Medial and lateral borders: give rise to the palmar septa partitioning the fascial spaces.
