  • Root of the lung: short broad pedicle connecting the medial surface of the lung to the mediastinum, formed by structures entering and leaving at the hilum.
    • Lies opposite the bodies of T5 to T7 vertebrae.
  • Surrounded by a tubular sheath derived from the mediastinal pleura.
