Root of the lung: short broad pedicle connecting the medial surface of the lung to the mediastinum, formed by structures entering and leaving at the hilum.
Lies opposite the bodies of T5 to T7 vertebrae.
Surrounded by a tubular sheath derived from the mediastinal pleura.
