  • Ventricular system: four continuous cavities within the brain filled with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF): two lateral ventricles, a third ventricle and a fourth ventricle.

Lateral Ventricles

  • Lateral ventricles: paired, C-shaped cavities, one in each cerebral hemisphere; the largest of the four ventricles.

  • Capacity of each lateral ventricle is about 7 to 10 mL; separated from its fellow by the septum pellucidum, a thin sheet between the corpus callosum and fornix.
