Definition
Beveling is the sloping or funnel-shaped widening of a firearm wound in bone produced by a bullet.
Types
Internal beveling
- Seen in: entry wound of skull.
- Bullet strikes the outer table first.
- Greater loss of bone occurs from the inner table.
- Produces a funnel-shaped defect directed towards the inside.
- Outer table → small hole; inner table → larger hole.
External beveling
- Seen in: exit wound of skull.
- Bullet exits through the skull.
- Greater loss of bone occurs from the outer table.
- Produces a funnel-shaped defect directed towards the outside.
- Outer table → larger hole; inner table → small hole.
