Embryonic folding

5 min read

  • Embryonic folding: transformation of the flat, trilaminar embryonic disc into a cylindrical embryo, occurring in median and horizontal planes due to rapid disc growth.

Mechanism of Folding

Sequence

  • Disc elongation → dorsal convexity → head fold and tail fold → lateral folds → primitive gut enclosed → cylindrical embryo with umbilical ring
