Extensor retinaculum

  • Extensor retinaculum: thickened band of deep fascia on the back of the wrist, directed downward and laterally, about 2 cm broad vertically.

Attachments

  • Medial end: styloid process of the ulna, triquetral and pisiform bones.
  • Lateral end: lower part of the anterior border of the radius.

Compartments

  • Five septa run from the retinaculum to the dorsal radius and ulna, dividing the space deep to it into six compartments, numbered I to VI lateral to medial.
