- Great saphenous vein (long saphenous vein): longest vein in the body, lying in the superficial fascia from the foot to the femoral vein in the thigh.
Course
- Formed on the dorsum of the foot by union of the medial end of the dorsal venous arch and the medial marginal vein of the foot.
- Ascends from the ankle along the medial side of the leg and thigh to the saphenous opening (fossa ovalis), where it pierces the cribriform fascia to drain into the femoral vein.
