Stroke volume and ejection fraction

2 min read

Definition

  • Stroke volume (SV) is the volume of blood ejected by each ventricle with each beat; normal SV is about 70 mL.
  • Ejection fraction (EF) is the percentage of end-diastolic volume ejected with each beat, EF = SV/EDV × 100; normal EF is about 65%.
