Definition

  • Isotonic (dynamic) exercise: isotonic muscle contraction, muscle length changes, external work is done, e.g. walking, jogging.
  • Isometric (static) exercise: isometric muscle contraction, muscle length unchanged, no external work is done, e.g. pushing against a wall.
