Definition
Gastric lavage is the washing out of stomach contents to remove poison.
Indications
- Potentially serious poisoning.
- Recent ingestion of poison.
Contraindications

Caution
Do not perform gastric lavage in corrosive poisoning — the corroded stomach wall risks perforation. Also avoid it with an unprotected airway (aspiration) or during convulsions unless the airway is secured. These are classic exam traps.
